The Music Photo Gallery presents a fresh perspective on the captivating era that defined underground New York in the 1970s.

Our journey began with the acclaimed solo show of Bob Gruen's work, curated by Julien Frydman, titled "Walk on the Wild Side." This exhibit gained recognition at the Paris Photo fair in the Grand Palais Ephemere, Paris, France. It unveiled a treasure trove of documentation, photographs, and videos from Bob Gruen's archive, capturing the raw energy and cultural vibrancy of New York's underground scene.

As we enter a new phase, we're excited to bring this narrative back to the city that witnessed the birth of a global cultural movement over half a century ago. Our debut at Photofairs New York promises an immersive experience, enriched by the perspectives of artists like Marcia Resnick and Roberta Bayley. They provide distinct viewpoints on the same epoch, reinvigorating its vivid history.

Our presentation is structured around three thematic bodies of work, each revealing a unique facet of the era's magic and creative fervor. From the iconic portraits by Bob Gruen that capture musical legends like John Lennon, Patti Smith, and David Bowie, to an exploration of the artistic underbelly showcasing trailblazing trans figures. The journey concludes with vintage photographic gems by Marcia Resnick and curated polaroids by Roberta Bayley that encapsulate intimate moments. The exhibition is a tapestry woven from the threads of an unforgettable time.
