The Beatles in Bel Air, California - 1964

After playing their first Canadian show in Vancouver, on their first real tour of the U.S. and North America, The Beatles flew to Burbank Airport in California for a few days of relaxation before their historic show at the Hollywood Bowl. Beatlemania was in full throttle and so it wasn’t an easy trip for the band after the airport refused to allow their plane to land and the Ambassador Hotel canceled their reservation at the last minute out of fear of the frenzied fans.
The boys were in a bind, but luckily British actor Reginald Owen stepped in and rented them his Bel Air mansion for $1,000. Bob Bonis shot this unique photograph of John Lennon, Ringo Starr, George Harrison and Paul McCartney as they pose on the diving board by the pool.
