The photograph was taken on 19th May 1977 at Eric's Club in Mathew Street, Liverpool, directly opposite the site of the old Cavern Club where the Ramones had earlier paid their respects. The gig was packed out and it was loud, hot and sweaty. I ran out of dry items to clear condensation from my glasses and camera lenses. Best summed up in the quote from Tommy Ramone in my book, "Flash Bang Wallop!" "On our tour of Britain, one of my most vivid memories was of me dozing off on the tour bus and waking up slowly in a half-dream haze to the city of Liverpool. For a person who came of age in the 60's finding onseself in Liverpool was an incredible experience. When we got to the club (Eric's) the owners were telling us that we were across the street from the Cavern. When we asked if we could see it, they sadly told us that it had been demolished. They assured us, however, that the club we were playing looked exactly like the Cavern, and it did, since all the buildings on the block had similar basements - brick walls, arches and all. It was also one of the hottest places we had ever played, it must have been 150 degrees on that stage."
